Eat*Drink*Cleveland

A hungry girl's adventures in Cleveland and beyond.

I went to New York City in August. It was my first trip and I was so excited to finally see the Big Apple! It's a place I had only seen in movies, on TV, etc and I wanted to experience it for myself. But it's a place that's forever associated with terror.

I had never seen the Twin Towers in person but their presence still hangs over Ground Zero. As we got close, I just stopped and stared. There is new construction on this site but in the whole area, the past is still there. I got chills as I looked at the emptiness and thought of all the innocent lives lost.

As we walked closer, I could imagine how all the workers at the World Trade Center felt that morning as they went to work. How the people felt as they ran errands, took walks, ate breakfast. So innocent and normal. Everything changed.
Seeing the newly opened memorial was a Must Do. I was apprehensive because of the emotions I still feel 11 years later. But we forced ourselves and I'm glad we did. The museum is not yet open and I was disappointed but relieved. I think seeing both would have been too much for one day. We'll definitely go back.

Never forget.
