A hungry girl's adventures in Cleveland and beyond.

Food for Fines

I'm a huge fan of the Cuyahoga County Public Library - where else can you check out books, read magazines, download e-books, "rent" movies, do yoga, learn about computers and even meet authors. For Free.

I even don't mind (too much!) if I'm late returning an item because the money they collect in fines helps keep my library the awesome place that it is.

But - if you have a huge bill looming (shame on you!) they are offering a little relief: Food for Fines. This program lets you waive your fines in exchange for food donations for the Cleveland Food Bank. Win win, right?

Sunday March 24th through Saturday March 30th you can bring in one of the "Super Six" most wanted food items:

  1. peanut butter
  2. cereal
  3. canned soup
  4. beef stew
  5. canned veggies
  6. tuna
and get $1.00 of your fines waived for each item donated. Or if you prefer, you can donate $1.00 and get $1.00 waived, up to $4.00 per day. Obviously, no expired or dented cans of food and no glass containers please.

So help yourself get outta debt and help the hungry!
