Eat*Drink*Cleveland

A hungry girl's adventures in Cleveland and beyond.

Did you know that your can take a shelter dog out for some R+R?

Both the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter and Cleveland APL offer the ability to hang out with one of their dogs for the day. By taking a shelter dog on an adventure, you’re giving them a chance to relax, explore, and experience the world outside of the kennel.

You have to provide your drivers license and agree to adhere to the rules such as no dog parks, no exposure to other pets, etc. Then you're off on your adventure!

They provide a backpack of supplies including everything you need for the day, including snacks, a towel and a seat belt for the car.

Another benefit of these programs are that they give the dogs the chance to be exposed to people who may want to adopt them.

We've done this twice so far and love it.

First up was Hamilton from the Cleveland APL. He was such a good boy! We went for a walk, ate lunch at Terrestrial Brewing Co. and celebrated Luca's Pet Nutrition Center's birthday with them. We hung out at our house for a bit too.

He was very interested in other people and dogs but never lunged at them. He had a very gentle disposition and was very good on a leash. They said he came from a very bad situation, but you would never know. He loved everyone and was very happy.

Our 2nd pup was Baby Margaret. I called her Waggy Maggie because she was such a happy girl. She was so sweet and well-behaved. We took her on a super long walk because of the gorgeous weather then crashed out at home for some snuggle time and snacks. She loves belt rubs! Baby Margaret was an absolute angel and made herself right at home. They said she was a stray but it was obvious that she was a house dog for most of her life. She knew to ask to go outside and what the refrigerator was for.😅
Both of the dogs would make amazing pets! If you are looking for a new furry family member, look no further because they will steal your heart.

I can't recommend these programs enough!  It's so good for the dogs and is a lot of fun.

I'm signed up again later this month.  If you have any questions, reach out. I'm happy to share more about my experience.

After a cold spring,  summer is finally here. And it sure came in with a bang! These 90+ degree days and humidity at least have been brutal....
